  1. The Watson’s Go To Birmingham is my new favorite book. I really enjoyed every minute of it. I think that my favorite part of the book was the part when Byron (my second favorite character) told Kenny (my favorite character) about the Wool Pooh and Kenny trying to find it. I laughed SO hard! I also liked Byron’s “The World Famous Watson Pet Hospital.” I liked that people thought it had magical powers but really it didn’t. Really there was nothing that I didn’t like about the book. The author Christopher Paul Curtis did an outstanding job with the ending. It explained how hard it was for Kenny to process the bombing. I wish that Curtis had put the bombing earlier in the book so he had more space to talk about that. That’s really the only thing I would have wanted changed in the book. I would recommend this book to any fourth or fifth grader.

  2. I really enjoyed The Watsons Go to Birmingham-1963. But the bad thing is at the beginning Kenny kept jumping from different ideas, like the coldness in Flint to school. The most enjoyed part by me was when Kenny almost died in the fight against the Wool Pooh. This part got me WAY interested in the book. Other parts in the book I was like huhuhuhuhuhuhuh this is boring.
What would be really cool is if Mr. Collier and the Wool Pooh where the bombers and Collier’s Landing is their fort. I wish that Byron did have to stay with Grandma Sands. I enjoyed Joey A LOT because she seems so mature and it is funny how she says I’m telling! I wanted the story to go a little longer. The epilogue should have been about their older life, not on the time period!!!! If this is a kid’s book then why would they have bad words in it, like a lot of them.
    I enjoyed it a lot!

    1. I really do agree that it was jumping idea to idea but it was kind of making it not so boring to hear,Because I know everyone hates a boring beginning. The fight wasn't just the best part but a place to stop in read aloud and ruin it!(JK)

  3. I think the idea of a boy main character was a good idea because of it really showed how a boy or even just a child thinks of hard times like that.I like that Kenny expressed his feelings and shared them with Byron only, like some brother bonding.I do think that he was kind of being overwhelmed about it and at least Joeys alive. But I see how he feels about the bombing because we should all know about the denver shooting at the theater. And some people got emotional about stuff like that even I did.Momma was a good person to have in the story a short tempered, sweet when happy ,and a good mom.But she did kind of be a drama queen about thboth of e fire scene with Byron and burning his hand. But she did get emotional and it showed how fragile a mom can be when it comes to her children. Now I know how it felt when I got really mad and said I wanted go suicide to my mom, because now I can connect.I like the majors events shes in like the fire part, the church bombing because it all has an emotional story of someone in the chapter(s).Moving on to Byron now hes a indivijewel of an official Juvenile Delinquent because he has good feelings at the end of the book.So that’s what I find interesting at the beginning of the book it says that hes one but dosen’t seem like one.He might of done some bad things but that what’s when you’re a CO-Delinquent.But why would he let Kenny share his feelings with him? He’s supposed to be calling him a baby and loser because of that. But look on the bright side he didn’t do that or something worse, he did kind of get mad at him but not much.Joey,Joey,Joey, now what we have he is a girl who got saved by curiosity and Kenny. What’s good is that she didn’t find out what the bombing thing was. Also, she should be crying her eyes out if she knew what happened. That’s because she cried when Byron got buried, Byron got the hairdo, and now she would probably be crying if she was real and alive. It seems like the whole family is emotional when it comes to this book.Finnaly, Dad now we all know what he did to Byron and he did diserve it but making fun of your own child is going way to far.But oonce he tricked out the car I could tell that there’s some craziness in him.But I don’t have anything else to say to him.I liked the way they placed the time period so you can know what their accents are in that time.Let me list some of the major events,Getting to know Kenny’s family,Him metting a new friend that he can relate to,Byron getting his hand burnt,Byron getting the perm on his hair, and the church bombing. What I enjoyed about the book is it was a drama and emotional.I also enjoyed the wierd comments that Byron made because they were homurous so I really liked the humor.I like the plot of the story and the moral that you shouldn’t beat yourself up about something that already happened.Byron was the mainly the person that cussed though out the book and that’s the only thing I didn’t like.I really didn’t like the part where he get’s burnt, it was funny but not right. But really who would put their child in danger, their house, and their selfim danger.Honestly I think both of them are dumb for burning your child and libhting army men on fire.I think the ending was jacked up because you wanted to read more but there wasn’t another book or story about the family. But it was very dramatic with the part of the bomb and Kenny crying but very good for a book. What’s very interesting is that we don’t know who Wool Pooh is and why the Mr.Collier's guy put up the sign entirely. Also, it was a great beginning to start with how cold it get’s in Flint and what happens there.I don’t have anything else to say on the end or what happen and didn’t happen because entirely it was a great book to read and I hope next years’ class enjoys it!!!

  4. The Watsons Go to Birmingham is pretty good. I just didn't enjoy it as much as I thought I would, like I didn’t like how it didn't give specifics. Like the Wool Pooh, I’m confused if its real or made up because Kenny saw in all, i don't know. My favorite character was probably Kenny or Joey. Kenny because I feel like I can relate with him on a lot of things, like when he sits behind the couch I do that too. Joey because she has this like girly girl quality and tomboy, and most girls like having a girl in a story. The ending of the story isn't that good, it just kinda leaves you hanging. Is there a book two because if there is i would love to read it.

  5. I think the book The Watsons go to Birmingham is an amazing book.I think that Kenny was a very interesting character because he changed threw the story. It seemed like Kenny started to change into a shy person who just wanted to be alone for the rest of his life in the end of the book. His brother Byron changed from a BIG brat into a respectful brother. Joey has always been the same until the end of the book when she turned into a tattle-tale and told her mother about almost everything. Dad started to be a little weird when they were in there way to Alabama. He started talking southern style and made me get a little nervous that he might be going crazy. Momma is someone who just worries ALL the time. She will just completely freak out if Kenny goes to the famous Watson pet hospital and just sit there for an hour or so. I thought the setting completely changed when they were in freezing cold weather in Flint, Michigan but then when they got to Birmingham, Alabama it was so hot there that they were sweating no matter what they did.I thought that the whole “Wool Pooh” thing was confusing. I know there is no such thing as the Wool Pooh but what was pulling Kenny away from the shore? What did Kenny see inside of the church? At the bombing of the church, was Kenny seeing things? Were the police being lazy and letting their guard down? I thought the ending of the story was just plain terrible. Seriously, don’t end an amazing story like this end with such a bad ending! The last part was pretty much the climax with the bombing but then it just ended with Kenny crying in the bathroom. Not a very good ending.
